Agriculture Secretary Reminds Pennsylvanians to License Dogs
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff today reminded Pennsylvanians to license all dogs three months of age and over.
"Now that spring has arrived, many residents will be spending more time outdoors with their dogs," said Wolff. "Spring serves as a good time to remind dog owners to license their dogs. As we spend more time outside, it is easier for our dogs to get lost. Licensing often helps to ensure that your dog will be returned to your family if lost."
State law requires that all dogs three months or older be licensed by January 1 of each year. The fee is $8 for dogs, $6 if the dog is spayed or neutered. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may purchase a license for $6, or $4 for spayed or neutered dogs. Lifetime licenses are available as well. Violators of the licensing requirement may be fined up to $300 per violation plus court costs.
Wolff added that licensing is a quick and easy process. Dog owners may apply for a license by using one of the following methods:
-- Download the Dog License Application from the Department's site at http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/ (click on 'PA Dog License' icon).
Print, sign and mail it along with a check or money order to your
county treasurer.
-- Visit your county treasurer's office to file an application or ask
your county treasurer's office for a list of licensing agents
throughout the state.
