Architects Are Going to the Dogs at Black Tie & Tails 2006

Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter's Sixth Annual Fundraiser and Auction to be Held October 20 at The Dearborn Inn

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, October 20, 2006, the Sixth Annual Black Tie & Tails benefit will be held at The Dearborn Inn, A Marriott Hotel. Guests of both the two- and four-legged variety will be dressed in their finest to enjoy a gala evening from 7 p.m. until midnight. Attendees will partake in a champagne reception, dinner and dancing and silent and live auctions, all to benefit the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter.

The featured guest will be a representative from Paws With A Cause, the national organization that trains dogs to assist individuals with disabilities. And, of course, the most honored guests will be dogs and cats from the Dearborn Animal Shelter who are looking for that very special family to call their own.

Unique to this year for Black Tie & Tails will be the auction of specially-designed "BauWauHauses." In the spirit of the revolutionary 20th century design school known as the Bauhaus, some of Michigan's top architecture firms are donating their time, energy, and talents to designing and building innovative "summer homes" that will satisfy even the most finicky of four-legged friends. These one-of-a-kind dog domiciles will be produced in a very limited number, and will only be available for purchase at Black Tie & Tails. All proceeds from this unique auction will benefit the animals who seek safe haven at the Dearborn Animal Shelter.

Participating architecture firms include DSA Architects; Gensler; SmithGroup, Inc.; HarleyEllis Devereaux; and architects from Lawrence Technological University. Edward Orlowski, chair of the architecture department at Lawrence Tech, spearheaded the initiative. According to Orlowski, "The BauWauHaus designs should be exciting, and will definitely be original. And, of course, this community partnership will help advance a most worthwhile cause -- animal welfare."

Beginning October 7, the BauWauHauses will be available for viewing at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, located on Michigan Avenue in Dearborn.

In addition to thanking the architecture firms for their generosity, the Friends would also like to acknowledge Black Tie premier sponsors: Mary Ann Wright, Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Services, Downriver Animal Hospital, Lincoln Park Veterinary Hospital, Motor City Solutions, Cheryl Brozovic, Dr. Cheryl and Mr. Mark Good, Greektown Casino, Kelly Services, Lawrence Technological University, Alberta Muirhead, Kay and Doug Neff, and Emily Opincar.
