ASPCA Calls for Nominations for the Annual Humane Awards

NEW YORK, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(R) (ASPCA(R)) is issuing a call for nominations for its annual Humane Awards. The ASPCA is asking the public to help identify extraordinary animals as well as people who have furthered animal welfare in the United States over the past year. Winners will be chosen by a committee selected by the ASPCA, and will be invited to attend the Humane Awards Luncheon in New York City on Tuesday, October 25th at the historic Rainbow Room, where they will be presented the award.

The categories for nomination are:

* ASPCA Dog of the Year (for the dog who has performed a heroic act in the
past year).

* ASPCA Cat of the Year (for the cat who has performed a heroic act in the
past year).

* ASPCA Lifetime Achievement (for the person over 50 years of age who has
spent many years in the service of animal welfare).

* ASPCA Legislator of the Year (for the legislator who has made strides in
changing the laws in their state or nationally to forward animal
welfare).

* ASPCA Community Activist (for the local community activist who has done
something extraordinary for an animal).

* ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year (for the member of a municipal
police force (or other public service officer) who made a heroic effort
to save an animal in the past year).

Nominations can be submitted either via the ASPCA website (http://www.aspca.org/nominate) or in writing to:

Included in the nomination should be the nominees name, category being nominated, street address, email address, telephone number, and a short (75 words or less) description of why you think they deserve the award. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, August 31 at 12 PM noon (EDT).
