The City Dog's Ultimate Survival Guide Launches in Chicago and San Francisco

NEW YORK, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Urbanhound: The City Dog's Ultimate Survival Guide, founded six years ago as the definitive online network for New York City's 1.1 million canine households, today announced two new local editions of its acclaimed website to serve San Francisco's and Chicago's dog enthusiasts.

"It's a simple idea: dogs and their owners need help navigating city life; urbanhound is their guide," said Nina Munk, a journalist and dog-loving urban dweller who conceived the idea for the award-winning urbanhound.com soon after getting Mack, her Brittany. "People in San Francisco and Chicago are as devoted to their dogs as New Yorkers are."

You may wonder: Is there are dog park near me? Which breeds are right for an apartment dweller? How and where do I apply for a dog license? Where do I go to adopt a healthy puppy? Can I take my dog on Amtrak? Do dogs get colds? Can a person get fleas from a dog? Is pet insurance worth the money? Does anyone in town sell holistic pet supplies? Can someone recommend a trustworthy dog walker? Answers to all these questions, and more, can be found at http://www.urbanhound.com/.

The website offers expert advice from the respected veterinarian Dr. Betsy Brevitz and the renowned dog trainer Andrea Arden. One section of the website is devoted to weekend getaways for dog owners and their four-footed friends. Other sections include: an in-depth survey of pet health insurance plans; reviews of all the city's best pet boutiques; details on every off-leash recreation area in town; a directory of all things hound (from pet-supply stores, groomers and dog walkers to pet cemeteries); and a popular community message board. As well, for people thinking about getting a dog, there's a comprehensive guide to the city's dog shelters, and an easy-to-use Breed Finder.

The new San Francisco and Chicago editions of urbanhound.com are the latest moves by the growing company, which is run by Nina Munk and her sister Cheyne Munk Beys. A companion book to the website, "Urbanhound: The New York City Dog's Ultimate Survival Guide" (City & Co.), was published in 2001. More recently, the website's "Hound Health" veterinary channel was spun off in the form of a book titled "Hound Health Handboook: The Definitive Guide to Keeping Your Dog Happy, Healthy & Active" (Workman Publishing, 2004)
