DEARBORN, Mich., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 22, the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter (Friends) will be holding the inaugural Mutt Strut. Come join us on the East side of the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center Grounds at the corner of Michigan Ave. and Greenfield in Dearborn, MI -- rain, snow or shine! The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Walk Kick Off at 11 a.m. (Registration starts at 10 a.m.).
The Mutt Strut is a great day, and a great way to share a walk with your dog and contribute to animals in need. If you don't have a dog, you can still participate by joining the walk on your own or by sponsoring a volunteer to walk one of the shelter dogs at the event. Pledge forms are available at the shelter's website, http://www.dearborn-animals.com/ . Pre-register before April 8th and save!
The Mutt Strut is more than just a walk -- it's a community-wide celebration of animals! In addition to the walk, there will be Dog Games like: Hot Dog Toss, Musical Sit, and the Dog/Owner Look-a-Like contest. Also, be sure to stop in at the Reunion Tent and share stories with others who have adopted from the shelter, or have your adopted dog's picture taken and added to the "Wall of Four-Legged Friends." Cat owners are also encouraged to share photos and stories.
The Friends will also be dedicating Casey's Trail, a dog-walking path that will wind around the new Animal Adoption and Education Center (future home of the Dearborn Animal Shelter). Personalized bricks can be purchased at the event, as well as online. All funds raised at the Mutt Strut go to support the animals.
There will also be a low-cost Microchip Clinic, so that if your pet ever gets lost we can help you find them. There will also be Friends merchandise available for sale.
In addition, the shelter will be having an Open House, so stop in and see the available animals -- you may just find a forever friend! The shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road, Dearborn (one mile south of Michigan Avenue; 1/2 mile south of Rotunda; just south of the viaduct under I-94 on the west side of Greenfield at the intersection of Butler Road).
For more details, please call the shelter at 313-943-2697. Or, visit the Friends website (http://www.dearborn-animals.com/ ) for rules, a downloadable pledge form or online signup.
The mission of the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter is to provide loving care and sanctuary to animals, encourage adoptions and reunions, and promote respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals.
