London, 16 September/GNN/ -- MARITIME AND COASTGUARD AGENCY News Release (Duty Press 1) issued by The Government News Network on 16 September 2006 Kano the spaniel cross has been re-united with his owners this afternoon after he was lost, feared drowned last night. The dog had disappeared from his owners' boat as they traveled from Helensburgh to Port Glasgow and they had presumed that he had drowned. However, the dog had swum to shore and this morning as a Coastguard from the Kilcreggan Coastguard Rescue Team walked his own dog near the Roseneath Caravan Park, he found Kano, whining at the water's edge.
The Coastguard called Clyde Coastguard operations room, and fearing that the dog's owner was in some difficulty nearby, a search involving the Kilcreggan Coastguard Rescue Team, Strathclyde Police and an MOD Police Launch was launched. At the same time Clyde Coastguard made a call to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) in the hope that they might be able to identify the dog's owners via microchip. The SSPCA had been informed of a dog matching the description given by the Coastguard and been lost over board the previous evening. The Coastguard then informed the owners who were extremely pleased to hear that Kano was safe and well.
Stuart Atkinson, Clyde Coastguard Watch Manager says:
"Kano has now been re-united with his owners, who are thrilled that he survived his ordeal. He had disappeared from the boat overnight and they had been unable to find him, despite a search."
