Dogs From Around the World Ready to Compete in World Cynosport Games
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Only a few last minute details remain for the 2005 World Cynosport Games to get underway. (Pronounced See-no Sport, cyno is Latin for dog.) Some nine hundred competitors from eleven different countries will vie for the Grand Prix of Dog Agility(R) World Championships, one of the headlining events of the Cynosport Games scheduled at WestWorld in Scottsdale, November 9 through 13. United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA), Tribune Newspapers and GetOut Magazine sponsor the Games.
The Games also include national and regional events in flyball, dog diving, obedience, as well as exhibitions in herding, terrier races, lure coursing and canine freestyle dance, which fill the five day event and make the Cynosport Games the "must see" event for dog lovers.
An estimated 100 of the world's top flying disc competitors from across North America and Japan will go after the Ashley Whippet World Flying Disc Championships. AWI, in cooperation with the Flying Disc Dog Open will also offer an "Extreme Distance Challenge" in an attempt to set the world distance record as part of this year's Games.
People from around the world have been competing all year in order to advance to this level, and the "Who's Who" of canine sport will be on hand, such as Marcus Topps and his border collie Juice, top money winner in dog agility at this year's ESPN Great Outdoor Games and former IFCS world champion. And, Bob Evans, a three-time world champion in flying disk will return to try for a fourth world title, after capturing the championship in 2000, 2003 and 2004.
The event also draws from among "Who's Who" in other sports. Former Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Louganis, placing 4th in dog agility regional championship competition earlier this year, has three of his dogs entered in the dog agility tournaments in hopes of earning still yet another "Games" medal.
The public can enroll their dog in official dock-diving and flying disk competition, and can enter exhibition terrier races, lure coursing heats and even receive instruction hands-on in a dog agility ring under the supervision of seasoned trainers. There is also a 30,000 square foot vending exhibition where you can start your holiday shopping.
