HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff today reminded Pennsylvanians to purchase their 2006 dog licenses.
"Buying a dog license is essential to the safety of our pets," said Wolff. "If a dog is lost or stolen, a license provides information that can help reunite it with its owner."
Different licensing options exist to accommodate the varying needs of pet owners. If an animal is spayed or neutered, the annual license is $6. If it is not, the license is $8. Lifetime licenses may be purchased for $51, or $31 if the animal has been spayed or neutered. Senior citizens and people with disabilities pay reduced fees. More than 925,000 licenses were sold in 2005.
Licenses are required for all dogs more than three months of age.
Dog owners may apply for a 2006 license by either:
* Downloading and completing the Dog License Application found at http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/ and returning it, along with a check
or money order, to your county treasurer; or
* Visiting your county treasurer's office to file an application or pick
up a list of agents who sell the licenses.
The Pennsylvania dog-licensing program is administered by the state Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement. For more information, visit http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/ and click on 'Bureaus.'
