Diamond Pet Foods Manufactured in S.C. May Contain Toxins
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Pet owners need to know that some pet foods manufactured in South Carolina by Diamond Pet Foods, and sold by nearly 200 retailers in Pennsylvania, may be contaminated and could lead to pet illness or death, state Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff today announced.
"The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is working with South Carolina officials and pet food distributors in Pennsylvania to contain and remove certain potentially dangerous food from the market," said Wolff. "The safety of Pennsylvania's animal population is important to the Department of Agriculture, and I urge all pet owners to check the labels of their pets' food and call their veterinarians with any signs of illness."
The food, manufactured by Diamond Pet Food under the names Diamond, Country Value and Professional, may contain aflatoxin, which can be toxic to animals. Pennsylvania is one of 22 states that receives the dog food.
Diamond Pet Food has notified distributors and recommended they hold the sale of all products that could be contaminated while samples are tested. Products from the Gaston-based facility are the only ones affected. Gaston plant products can be identified by a "G" in the 11th or 12th character in the date code. The date codes affected by aflatoxin are "01-March-07" through "10-March-07."
Products affected by aflatoxin include:
