Dog Fancy Spotlights Its 35th Anniversary With Dogtown USA....

A Celebration of America's Best and Friendliest Dog Communities

IRVINE, Calif., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- This year, Dog Fancy, America's leading canine magazine, celebrates 35 years of loving man's best friend with a search for Dogtown USA -- a national contest for Dog Fancy readers to prove that their community is the most dog friendly. Dog Fancy editors will dig high and low, read all entries carefully, research facts and figures, and finally in November, choose Dogtown USA along with nine runners-up. All winners will be presented in the November Collector's Issue of Dog Fancy.

Dog Fancy has been writing, researching, traveling and truly enjoying the last 35 years of existence and what better way to give back to readers than by celebrating them! Each community selected in the top 10 will receive prizes from the contest's wonderful sponsors Nestle Purina PetCare, Nutri-Vet Nutritionals, Wahl Clipper Corp., Deramaxx, Soft Claws, Flexi-Mat Corporation and VPI Pet Insurance. Dogtown USA call for entries ends May 15, 2005, and submissions are being accepted by mail and email. Log on to dogfancy.com to nominate your dog-friendly community.

Being named Dogtown USA is no small feat. The ideal criteria for the winners includes the presence of dog-friendly activities, restaurants and businesses, dog parks or other off-leash areas, critical-care facilities, medical specialists, city-sponsored spay/neuter drives, pro-dog legislation, low surrender rates, high preventative participation and a good vet-pet ratio. Dog Fancy will travel to the winning community to present it with the top honors. This exciting contest is truly a memorable and extraordinary event that Dog Fancy is proud to bring to readers.

Dog Fancy editor Susan Chaney says, "We're looking forward to seeing which cities and towns our readers think are best for dogs. We've already received dozens of nominations for great dog-friendly communities all across the U.S. But we'd like to hear from dog lovers from coast to coast and border to border who think they live in the best dog town in America."

Dog Fancy is devoted to the care and enjoyment of all dogs, purebreds and mixed breeds alike. Dog Fancy's goal is to educate, enlighten and entertain readers, providing them with accessible information needed to be responsible dog owners.
