Iams Friends For Life Fund Helps with the Shelter, Care, and Placement of more than 1,000 Dogs and Cats Left Homeless by Katrina

DAYTON, Ohio, March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thanks to the generosity of employees and pet lovers around the world, the Iams Friends for Life Fund recently awarded nearly $60,000 to seven organizations that helped care for animals displaced or left homeless by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This is in addition to the more than 200,000 pounds of dog and cat food donated by The Iams Company to help with disaster relief.

Requests for assistance were received from animal welfare organizations that were 1) providing shelter and veterinary care, 2) working to reunite pets with their families and 3) working to find new homes for displaced pets. Expenses associated with transporting pets as well as shelter clean up or rebuilding were also considered.

100% of donations received by the Iams Friends For Life Fund through November 30 went to disaster relief for pets. Every group that applied for assistance received a contribution from the Fund.

Grant recipients include Operation Kindness (Carrollton, TX), Middleburg Humane Foundation (Marshall, VA), Humane Society of South Mississippi (Gulfport, MS), Humane Society of North Texas (Fort Worth, TX), Humane Society of Tulsa (Tulsa, OK), Animal Sanctuary of the US (San Antonio, TX) and the Louisiana State University Foundation (Baton Rouge, LA).

Due to the success of the Fund, The Iams Company plans to maintain the Iams Friends For Life Fund at the Greater Cincinnati Foundation as a permanent fund that will be used to support the Iams Friends For Life mission of bringing together people and pets for a lifetime of health, happiness and love.
