WHY: To celebrate the 1,000th dog rehomed by SOS Dogs Oradea

There is cause for celebration this February as SOS Dogs Oradea celebrates the 1,000th street dog to find a home since the project began in 2003.

Three year old Alaskan Malamute, "O Mie", is the lucky dog whose life has been turned around since finding a new home with the Nagy family from Oradea. "O Mie" was originally found on the streets as stray. Staff are now hoping that more potential owners from across the region will come forward to offer homes for other street dogs who are still looking for their luck to change.

There are currently 178 dogs looking for homes at SOS Dogs Oradea plus 67 puppies who have been born at the site. Each dog has been examined by the on site Veterinary Surgeon and is neutered.

SOS Dogs Oradea - Background

The Project was set up in September 2003 by UK charities Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home alongside US charity North Shore Animal League. The aim of the project is to show that the concept of "catch, neuter and Release," coupled with an educational programme, will over time make street dogs a thing of the past.

Since 2003 over 3,200 street dogs have been neutered by SOS Dogs Oradea. The project is fully supported by the local Mayor Primar Petru Filip and plans are afoot to make this a model for the rest of the world as the success of SOS Dogs Oradea has proved that it is possible to deal with street dogs in a humane way.

If you would like to help the dogs of Oradea, please visit SOS Dogs Oradea or call +40(0)723-656621.
