Winners to Be Announced at Final Award Ceremony on Thursday, October 19th

WHAT: After months of exercising and avoiding extra treats, the
'weighting' is nearly over for the finalists who have made the
cut for the Hill's 2006 National PetFit(TM) Challenge. With the
announcement of the winners in sight, previously porky cat and
dog hopefuls are sticking with their diet and exercise plans so
they will be in top shape when they strut their stuff for the
judges at the final award ceremony.

WHO: These "loser" cats and dogs are ready to show pudgy pets across
the country that slim is in! Their owners can share their pets'
dramatic weight loss stories from dangerously overweight to
reaching their ideal weights.

Milo, a deaf rescue Miniature Pinscher from Ft. Wayne, IN, lost
44% of his body weight when a new loving family took him in and
helped him slim down (from 22.8 lbs to 12.8 lbs!). Pumpkin, a cat
from Sonoma, CA, went from 22 lbs to 14 lbs -- that's 36% of his
body weight! Samson, an English Lab from Florida, lost 25 lbs,
and his owner Michael Glass lost 28 lbs thanks to those long
walks together!

Other once plump pets including Tia a Chesapeake Bay Retriever
from Weiser, ID, Jake a Beagle from Houston, TX, Thunder a black
Lab from Absecon, NJ, and Granger a cat from Mesquite, TX, round
out the competition.

Guest judge and fitness expert, Jillian Michaels (from the hit
show The Biggest Loser), and her not-so-chubby Chihuahua, Baxter,
will join renowned veterinarians Dr. Marty Becker and Dr.
Jennifer Jellison at the judging table.

WHY: As many as 40 percent of American household pets are obese or
overweight-that's 48 million cats and dogs! To help curb this
weighty trend, Hill's Pet Nutrition launched the Hill's 2006
National PetFit(TM) Challenge, a competition designed to help
raise awareness of the serious consequences of pet obesity and
encourage owners to make positive changes to their pets'
lifestyles.

WHEN: Two national winners (one dog and one cat) will be crowned on
Thursday, October 19th -- stay tuned for the announcement!
